MEDIA RELEASE
GEMBROOK COCKATOO SPORTS SHINING BRIGHT
Local Cockatoo clubs are set for the bright lights at Mountain Road Recreation Reserve thanks to upgraded oval lighting backed by the Victorian Government.
Member for Monbulk Daniela De Martino today joined members from the Gembrook Cockatoo Football Netball Club to officially launch the new lights, made possible by a $125,000 investment from the Country Football and Netball Program.
The lights give the local football teams and Auskick participants the chance to extend night training and take part in more development programs, giving more kids the opportunity to kit up and get involved, particularly the growing number of girls signing up to play.
The 100 lux lighting is also an energy saver with efficient LED fittings spreading even light, improving safety for players and encouraging greater participation on the oval for all.
Benefits also extend to the wider community, who will have more time to get together with friends and family to use the facilities for casual sport and play.
The Program is a partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria and has invested more than $43 million in over 590 country football and netball infrastructure projects with a total project value of more than $135 million since 2005.
It’s part of the more than $2.4 billion the government has invested in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
Daniela De Martino MP acknowledged the Cardinia Shire Council for its more than $120,000 contribution and commitment to delivering the project.
