MEDIA RELEASE
RAMPING UP THE FUN AT EMERALD’S NEW SKATE PARK
From skateboarding to basketball, Emerald’s youth and the young at heart can now emulate their Paris Olympic heroes close to home thanks to the completion of upgrades at Worrell Reserve.
Member for Monbulk Daniela De Martino today joined local celebrations to officially open the new skate park and youth plaza, backed by a $1 million Victorian Government investment.
Informed by community consultation, the new facilities include a skate park complete with an enclosed bowl, hips, corners, mini ramp, quarter pipe and more. It also includes a multi-use ball court, with adjacent seating.
The facilities provide local skateboarders, scooter riders, bike riders, budding 3X3 basketball stars and more with the opportunity to test their skills on a facility that caters for beginners right up to advanced.
Together the new spaces also provide a great new venue to host local competitions and events at the reserve and breathes new life into community sport and recreation activity in Emerald.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $2.3 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure over the past decade.
The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is also providing more than $23 million to continue delivery of community sport and active recreation infrastructure, and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.
Ms De Martino acknowledged the Cardinia Shire Council for its financial contribution of $273,602 towards the project and the local community for its involvement in the consultation phases that informed the design and delivery of these wonderful new facilities.
